None of this material appears on Void BeatsInvocation Trex, a 72-minute excursion that gives the band plenty of room to experiment. On the gliding 12-minute opener Tardis Cymbals, the confident way Cavern of Anti-Matter hold and morph a motorik groove harks back to Gane and Dilworth's previous project, but the track's taut dynamism feels uniquely theirs. Cavern Of Anti-Matter are the new band from Stereolab mainman Tim Gane, now Berlin-based and collaborating with original Stereolab drummer Joe Beats, Invocation Trex. Cavern of Anti-Matter. Alternative of Anti-Matter is the new project of Stereolab founder Tim Gane. The songs here cover ground from techno to krautrock to electro and beyond. The unifying element is the loose, jammy feeling to everything: It's easy to imagine these pieces being worked out in the studio in just one or two takes, even with their many moving pieces. Bradford Cox guests on one of two tracks with vocals. They released their debut album, the out-of-print Blood Drums, in 2013, but Void Beats, Invocation Trex feels in some ways like a proper debut, taking the tones and drones of that release and sculpting them into mesmerizing and thrilling pieces. On its own terms, Void Beats Invocation Trex is a Cavern worth exploring. So Cavern of Anti-Matter, the new brainchild of Stereolabs Tim Gane and Joe Dilworth with synth-wrangler Holger Zapf, treats their proper debut album as if its their fifth or ninth, naming it void beatsinvocation trex like any obscure find in the bin. To call it a continuation is to hex yourself with the three-word incantation Thanks Captain Obvious, with brand-new inventions like tardis cymbals and pantechnicon stretching their motorized legs for nearly 20 minutes of cushy analog proceedings. I would imagine that this is the sort of music Stan Ridgeway listens to while lounging in lace robes, eating psychedelic snails and viewing the earth from just outside of it’s gravitational field, with the sun and moon forever locked in a perpetual dance to see whom can outlast the other.

With that in mind, Void Beats/Invocation Trex comes across as futuristic lounge music for well heeled hipsters, with the album being nearly single minded in its intent, which of course is revealed only to the listener, where in a streamlined contextual exploration one feels both limitless and unobstructed. This isn’t music you play in the background, Void Beats is the background brought to center stage, this album is a welcomed relationship between sleeping dreams and wide-awake dreams. This is the sort of music that the euphoric synapses in your brain play to each other as they endlessly transfer information. Perhaps Void Beats is even Freudian in its construct and jealous nature, were there’s an interdependency of not only all the tracks, but to the pleasure one either gains or loses as these movements unfold in their pre-programed sounding design, where one begins to wonder who’s in control and who’s submissive in this archetype of nearly heretofore emotionally unexplored territories of tactile fullness.

The unifying fascinations found here revolve around loosely constructed light handed jams, a never-ending, nor overarching aesthetic of monologues audibly representing industrialized plastic art and the longevity such things may or may not have in this quickly changing society, where all that’s kitsch is considered to be grand, and all that’s grand is to be worshiped; the fulfillment of refined art for a new era.

As intricate structures bubble to the surface, there’s much that sounds decidedly and comfortably dated here, as if to gain the listener’s confidence before jettisoning them into aspect that are more explorative, then bringing them back in the same manner.

Ah, who am I kidding, this all comes off as an experimental score for some long lost B-budget science fiction movie, where the music is often more intently interesting than the movie.

*** The Fun Facts: Anti-matter are molecules formed by atoms consisting of antiprotons, antineutrons and positrons. Stable antimatter does not appear to exist in our universe.
