Douglas Wayne Sahm November 6, 1941 November 18, 1999 was an American musician and singer-songwriter from Texas. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a child prodigy in country music but became a significant figure in roots rock and other genres. Sahm is considered one of the most important figures in what is identified as Tex-Mex music. Proficient on multiple instruments, he was the founder and leader of the 1960s rock and roll band, the Sir Douglas Quintet. He would later co-found the Texas. These sessions were far-ranging and included too much material to fit onto one record, but Sahm kept recording for Atlantic, reconvening with a version of the Quintet, who were billed as the Sir Doug Band, to cut material that wound up on Texas Tornado, along with outtakes from the New York sessions.
