The New World Symphony seems to be a work that evokes very different interpretations from performers. Neumann's take - which is expressive and exciting throughout - emphasizes the coloristic contrasts between the different sections and the emotional drive of the music. I can't claim to have heard all recordings of the New World but have always thought the Fritz ReinerChicago Symphony interpretation was at the very top rung in terms of originality and depth. Czech composer Antonín Dvořák 18411904 composed his Symphony No. 6 in D major, Op. 112, in 1880. It was originally published as Symphony No. 1 and is dedicated to Hans Richter, who was the conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. With a performance time of approximately 40 minutes, the four-movement piece was one of the first of Dvořáks large symphonic works to draw international attention. The Symphony No. 1 in C minor, B. 9, subtitled The Bells of Zlonice Czech: Zlonické zvony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák during February and March 1865. The work is written in the early Romantic style, and was inspired by the works of Ludwig van Beethoven and Felix Mendelssohn. It was the only one of his symphonies that Dvořák never heard performed or had a chance to revise.
