The Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53 , is a concerto for violin and orchestra composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1879. It was premiered in Prague in 1883 by František Ondříček, who also gave the Vienna and London premieres. Today it remains an important work in the violin repertoire. Dvorak: Violin Concerto in A Minor, . Josef Suk: Fantasy in G Minor, for Violin & Orchestra, - Josef SukVaclav Neumann, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Performer: Josef Suk Composer, Josef Suk Violin, Vaclav Neumann Conductor, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Antonin Dvorak Composer. Audio CD September 22, 1994. Number of Discs: 1. Dvorak Violin Concerto. Never know why this lovely work is not more played, still less that Heifetz never took it up. Seems idea for his style. I agree with Robert, the most obvious choice here is Dvorak's great-grandson, the Czech violinist, Josef Suk. There are two recordings by Suk-the first is with conductor Karel Ancerl and the Czech Philharmonic in 1961, & the second with Vaclav Neumann and the Czech Philharmonic in the late 1970s. Both are excellent & more Czech sounding or idiomatic than other versions I know: Suk also recorded the Dvorak Romance in F minor, Op. 11 with both conductors: spFMTbreJYw. Neumann's orchestra matches the moods and colors of Suk throughout, providing vivid, full tuttis while dropping quickly to the background when the soloist enters
