First Performed at the King's Theater, London, February 20, 1724. Recorded in Webster Hall, New York City. Sung in Italian. Release came in a laid in container, includes a 28 page Libretto. This two disc set is a 1988 recording of Handel's three act opera Julius Caeser accompanied by the New York City Chorus and Orchestra, directed by Julius Radel. Artists include: Beverly Sills, Norman Treigle, Maureen Forrester, Beverly Wolff, Spiro Malas, Dominic Cossa, Michael Devlin, and William Beck. The singing is first class. As Cleopatra, Sills was in the role which made her a superstar and sounds wonderful. Norman Treigle does a fine job as Caesar, even displaying an adequate trill. Spiro Malas had a beautiful voice in those days, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear it in this repertoire. Giulio Cesare Julius Rudel 1967. part of: Giulio Cesare in Egitto, HWV 17.
