Info

The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get is the second studio album by the American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Walsh. The album was released in 1973, on the label ABC-Dunhill in the United States, and United Kingdom, and it was also released on MCA Records in Germany. It proved to be his commercial breakthrough, largely on the strength of the Top 40 hit single, Rocky Mountain Way, which helped propel the album into the Top 10. Joe Walsh - Book Ends. Joe Walsh - Wolf. Joe Walsh - Midnight Moodies. Walsh's ability to swing wildly from one end of the rock scale to the other is unparalleled and makes for an album to suit many tastes. Joe Vitale drums, flute, backing vocals, keyboards, and synthesizers a talented man and Kenny Passarelli bass and backing vocals are once again employed, and once again prove themselves adept at handling Walsh's various styles. The album sees an addition to the backing band in the form of Rocke Grace on keyboards and vocals. More by Joe Walsh. Yer' Album. Rocky Mountain Way. Songs for a Dying Planet. Rock Hits: 1973. Исполнитель: Joe Walsh. 1973 rock. Joe Walsh released his second solo album, 'The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get,' on June 18, 1973. We had the Smoker album pretty much done, he told Rolling Stone , except we had this one track that was an instrumental. I couldn't think of any words and everybody was patiently waiting for me to come up with something. One day I was in my backyard in Boulder mowing the lawn. And then I looked up. and there were the Rocky Mountains. It was summer, but you could still see snow on the back range. It just hit me how beautiful it all was, 5,000 feet up. And that was it - the words came: Spent the last year Rocky Mountain way, couldn't get much higher. The statement is meant to be comedic relief, there to set up the story of how the wild, unpredictable Joe Walsh - the one famous for hotel room trashing antics - ushered in a new chapter of the Eagles late-70s hedonism. But, if you take a closer look, the description rings true for his musical sensibilities, as well. Few places can it apply more aptly than 1973s The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get, Walshs second solo album in collaboration with his band Barnstorm. In this episode, we dig through the varied influences Walsh pulls from, discuss Barnstorm members' individual contributions, unpack the multitudes Joe Walsh contains, and more
