Lars Bartkuhn is one of the reliable artists in the nu jazz scene that has been making contemporary smooth jazz influenced clearly by Pat Metheny. Or, to be honest, doing Pat Metheny for the nu jazz sound (the airy vocals and the kind of composition are pure Metheny), but great at doing so, with three albums which showed him improving with each one. So, to me, it "Dimensions" was a surprise: it is so similar to the Jazztronik hit "Samurai" that in the first listen it becomes unnerving. Indeed it sounds like a remake. But if you pay attention you realize that it is a pure Bartkuhn track: the vocals "don't walk awayyyyyyy....", the chord changes, are purely him. And, well, he actually delivers a bridge section that is quite more impressive than the already impressive one in "Samurai", returning to the main theme with absolute elegance. Quite a feat. And his most pure broken beat track, by the way.

The Marcus Worgull remix changes the sound a bit: it uses an underlying tone to keep things melancholic, he makes the vocals clearer, and actually manages a good progression. Pretty, though the original is better.
