Audio diaries from Jerusalem & Tel Aviv.
Rutger Zuydervelt performed two shows in Israel in December 2007. Instead of his usual instruments (guitar, effectpedals, etc.) he only took a recording walkman and a microphone with him to capture the Israel-Adventure in sound. He used twelve 10 minute cassettes per day to record interesting environments in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. In the evening those cassettes were the source of a collage he made using a couple of walkmans and a mixing desk. No effects were added. This CD contains the (slightly edited) recordings of both live performances.

Tapes of the Day' does that in quite a literal way. Each of the days I had to perform one dat in Tel Aviv, the next in Jerusalem, I took my portable recorder and walked through the city, going wherever the wind or better: the sound would take me. I limited myself by using 10 tapes, on which only one moment would be recorded. So I had to decide carefully when to press 'record'. The moment I walked nearby a demonstration was specifically tense. The performances, which took place in the evening, consisted of mixing the recordings of that same day, live, in chonological order. The audience basically heard an ultra-condensed version of my day. A peak into my diary. Machinefabriek by Robert Gradisen. The name of Rutger Zuydervelts creative identity, Machinefabriek, conjures notions of futuristic industrial dystopias-but, in fact, it came from a rather unremarkable source. The word, meaning machine factory, was on a building that I passed each time I went grocery shopping, he explains. But probably an even bigger influence is the creation of the music itself, in which I try to start with a basic idea, but always keep plenty of room for happy accidents, and to surprise myself. Thats the most rewarding moment in the process, when things unexpectedly fall into place. Machinefabriek is the alias of Rutger Zuydervelt. His music combines elements of ambient, noise, minimalism, drone, field recordings and electro-acoustic experiments. The music can be heard as an attempt to create sonic environments for the listener to dwell in. Finding tension in texture, tone and timing, the result can be very minimalistic at first glance, but reveals its depth upon closer listening. The devil is in the details. Zuydervelt was born in 1978 in Apeldoorn The Netherlands and now resides in Rotterdam. He started recording as Machinefabriek in 2004. After a series of self relea.
