Info
Is it really 23 years since Mike Bloomfield shuffled off this mortal coil On 15 February 1981, the blues guitar legend was found dead from a drugs overdose, slumped in his car in a side street in San Francisco. During the 1960s, his guitar playing had ignited live performances and recordings by Bob Dylan, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and The Electric Flag, among others. Blue Ghost Blues Album Version. Although recorded as a blues guitar instructional album for Guitar Player magazine, it ended up being acclaimed as one of his finest solo recordings, of interest to both guitar players and the general listening public. Bloomfield had been in commercial and artistic decline for years prior to cutting this disc, and there's the sense that he welcomed the chance to get back to what he knew and loved the best, selecting and laying down material without having to worry about how well it would sell. If you love Bloomfield, then you should have a copy of this CD. Bloomfield plays in the styles of those who influenced him-it's very interesting and wonderful to hear him play not only different styles, but different guitars with each one. I like that he identifies the guitar and amplifier used on each tune. I'd prefer that information was simply provided in the liner notes instead of hearing him announce each one. If this is what brought you to this link, purchase the CD. You'll need to play these Blues, if you please, strictly by ear. There is no explanation of technique, no tablature, no Amazing Slow Downer and little explicit instruction at all. This compilation is a blues purists' dream, packaging If You Love These Blues, Play 'Em As You Please 1976, guitarist Bloomfield's personal tour through the history of acoustic and electric guitar blues, together with BloomfieldHarris, his 1979 instrumental overview of acoustic country-gospel blues jointly conducted with guitarist Woody Harris. Bloomfield was the American leader in the same first wave of guitarists in which Eric Clapton and Peter Green discovered their blues-rock voices in Europe.
