Robert Schumann German: 8 June 1810 29 July 1856 was a German composer, pianist, and influential music critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. Schumann left the study of law, intending to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist. His teacher, Friedrich Wieck, a German pianist, had assured him that he could become the finest pianist in Europe, but a hand injury ended this dream. Schumann then focused his musical energies on composing. Robert Schumann -22 Des Sennen Abschied arranged for piano by Franz Liszt -4 ロベルト シューマン 牛飼いのお別れ -22 リストによる編曲 -4 A little arranged. Widmung Liebeslied, transcription for piano after Schumann, I & II, S. 566 LW A133. Robert Schumann was a great enthusiast for Franz Schubert. He is reported as having 'cried all night' when, at the age of 18, he heard of Schubert's death. Schumann was a noted music critic, starting this career in 1831 in the Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung with an article on Chopin's Opus 2. In 1834 he started his own paper, the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik. Many of the writings in this paper were written as if from the perspective of a group of individuals Schumann called the Davidite Society - which allowed him to use different styles in his review. He was one of the most famous Romantic composers of the nineteenth century, as well as a famous music critic. An intellectual as well as an aesthete, his music reflects the deeply personal nature of Romanticism. Introspective and often whimsical, his early music was an attempt to break with the tradition of classical forms and structure which he thought too restrictive.
