Feeling Strangely Fine is the second studio album by American rock band Semisonic. It is the follow up to the band's debut album Great Divide recorded at Seedy Underbelly Studio, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The album contains some of Semisonic's best-known songs, including the major radio hit Closing Time, as well as the singles Singing In My Sleep and Secret Smile. While the first single from Feeling Strangely Fine doesn't necessarily show it very well, there is a lot of Ben Folds Five in Semisonic. Both employ a variety of different instruments, thus creating a sound that is sometimes very, very comparable. This is never more evident than on the fourth track, Never You Mind. Songs in album Semisonic - Feeling Strangely Fine 1998. Semisonic - Closing Time. Semisonic - Singing in My Sleep. Semisonic - Made to Last. Semisonic - Never You Mind. Semisonic - Secret Smile. When Feeling Strangely Fine was released, on 24 March 1998, Closing Times ascent to complete radio dominance was swift and efficient, spending 25 weeks on the Adult Alternative Song charts and peaking at No. 4 in May 1998. But while Closing Time is a call to action for the bleary-eyed barfly, the tune and album itself is more than just alehouse anthems. Its a beautiful song, containing what makes Feeling Strangely Fine a great album: witty wordplay, smart subtext, and perfectly placed instrumentation. Album 1998 16 Songs. Feeling Strangely Fine CD MCA Records, MCD 11733 111 733-2, 1998, 11 Track. The second record from this Minneapolis trio firmly established them as one of the most promising hard-edged pop bands to surface in the 1990s. Elsewhere, the band broadens its base with touches of psychedelic production California, boogie-woogie- influenced piano Never You Mind and tender string accompaniment Gone to the Movies. The disc drags a bit in the middle with less memorable tracks such as Completely Pleased and This Will Be My Year, but overall, Feeling Strangely Fine finds Semisonic blooming radiantly.
