Swinging from delicate, psychedelic pop songs to radiotronic, space-rock monsters. It stretches song structures and warps your mind through swirling highs and long comedowns. A masterpiece. The pump of sex, the swoon of drug, the struggle of man, a fix for. Steven commissioned me in 2008 to make vids to all tracks on Painkiller. In late 2008, as rumors swirled of a reunion album by legendary 1980s psychedelic popsters the Church, the band's frontman emerged from a long layoff with his first solo album in seven years. Steven John Kilbey born 13 September 1954 is an English-Australian singer-songwriter and bass guitarist for the rock band The Church. He is also a music producer, poet, and painter. Following his birth in Welwyn Garden City, England, UK, Kilbey was taken to Australia by his parents at the age of five years, and grew up around Dapto, before living with his. Painkiller is a music album by Steve Kilbey released in 2008. Painkiller is classic Kilbey from the very first track. His enchanting, singspeak voice hasn't changed much in ages. Furthermore, Outbound rides on one of those mantra-like, trance basslines he's been fond of for decades. The remainder of Painkiller finds Kilbey, working with Church drummerproducer Tim Powles, in similarly familiar territory, only sounding a bit closer to the Deep End than he has before. The disoriented feeling is enhanced by the continuous stream of subterranean echoes, ghostly guitar effects, and disembodied radio transmissions that snakes through the album.
