Info

What Kind of World is the debut album from Jamaican vocal trio The Cables. It was released in 1970 by Studio One, and collects tracks from singles the group recorded for the label. Backing was provided by Studio One house band the Soul Vendors, which included musicians such as Jackie Mittoo, Eric Frater, and Leroy Sibbles. The album has been described as a masterpiece of early reggae, and the most perfect of Studio One vocal albums. The album was re-issued on CD in 1991 by Heartbeat Records. Their B-sides were usually the equals of their flips, and this further expanded the group's limited catalog, until the producer finally rounded up ten of their classiest songs onto What Kind of World, a masterpiece of early reggae. A classic Jamaican rocksteady harmony trio, the Cables Keeble Drummond, Elbert Stewart, and Vince Stoddard came together in the late '60s, and although they produced some of the best cuts in the genre, they were woefully under-recorded. What Kind of World introduced the world to the Cables, and, sadly, was all the world heard from them. Coxsone Dodd, in the late 60's, added the trio, led by the fragile voice of Keble Drummond, to his amazing stable of singers, and allowed them to record. What followed were a string of top rate hits that included Be A Man, Love Is a Pleasure, What Kind of World,, and Baby Why, all of which appear on this lp. Sadly, this was all the trio was ever able to do, and the Cables, the one hit album wonders with 5 certified hits, faded i. What Kind Of World. My Broken Heart. Cheer Up. Let Them Talk.
